desgel
Desgel (Thaw). The process by which ice changes from a solid to a liquid when it absorbs thermal energy and reaches its melting point, 0 °C (273.15 K).
As it absorbs heat, the water molecules gain energy and the crystalline structure gradually breaks down. The bonds that held them in an ordered arrangement become less stable, and the water progressively regains its ability to move freely.
What was once held within begins to be released. Ice ceases to be a fixed structure and becomes once again a substance capable of adapting and taking on different forms.
In music, this process can be perceived in one note emerging from another, in a tension that resolves, in a texture that gradually opens up, or in one sound giving way to another.
Thaw and music share this transition from restraint to release: what was once held in place begins to expand and open up to new possibilities.
